The Athens Banner-Herald’s front page story, July 7, 1995, on the events of August 2, 1864, contains, as usual, several significant historical errors of fact. ![]() I have previously informed this paper, July 25, 1994, of the less popular skirmish that occurred on the evening of August 2, 1864, at Clarke’s Crossing. The details of this skirmish are related in a letter from Mrs. Howell Cobb to General Howell Cobb, dated August 3, 1864. This information was published in the August 3. 1994, Athens Banner-Herald on page 4, columns 4 & 5. Cobb’s letter, page 4 “A Cavalry company was improvised from 30 of Col. Howell & Hugh Harris went with the Cavalry. Howell rode “Easter” leaving “Nellie” to rest. Taylor’s company then out skirmishing the Yankees the same and a few shots were exchanged a shot from one of Lumpkins’ Battery were fired at a few Yankees which sent the whole “gang” a scampering leaving behind guns, clothes, new shoes.” Mitchell’s road and towards.īut I must tell you first - the Yankees, about 80 it is supposed came upon our breastworks.

1/1/2024 0 Comments Make a cover photo collage![]() Change the background – Click on the very last icon on the left side of the page (the one that looks like an artist’s palette). If it’s a pixel or two off, that’s totally fine. Simply drag the bottom of the image “up” until you reach 315 pixels, and then do the same with the sides (drag the left edge to the right until it’s 851 pixels). Don’t worry – in Picmonkey, it’s super easy to change the size. Your image should be approximately 851 x 315 pixels. Make sure your image is the right size – if you use a different sized layout like I did, you’ll need to adjust the size so that it fits the Facebook cover photo space.I used “Square Deal” because I wanted to add more photos. Picmonkey has some ready-made Facebook templates that you can use (just look for the box that says “FB Cover”). Create your layout – You’ll see a generic collage in your “workspace.” Click the second icon down on the left-most side of the page. ![]() Add photos – On the left of the page, look for a box that says “Open Photos.” Click that and select all of the photos that you’d like to use in your collage.Go to and click on “Create a Collage.”.I saved the photos in a folder on my desktop so I had them all in one place before I got started. Gather photos – I wanted to find some of my favorite Instagram photos from 2012 to do a year-in-review type collage. Now that I know I can…why not? How to make a Facebook cover photo collage with Picmonkey Not only am I enjoying my new cover photo, but I’m determined to keep updating my photo to fit with the current season. I was so inspired that I decided to create myself a new and festive Facebook cover photo for Better in Bulk’s fan page. Just last night, I designed a Christmas card for a friend of mine by using the Winter-themed overlays and fonts on Picmonkey. Why would I NOT take advantage of a photo-related site that is so easy to use AND FREE?! As a photographer, I own and know how to use Photoshop….and yet when I want to make an image Pinterest-friendly by adding a title with fun fonts…or when I want to edit a photo while I’m on the road, I always turn to Picmonkey. 1/1/2024 0 Comments Are you listening to me iconHowever, even with Hey Google voice commands disabled, third-party apps could still have the necessary permissions to access your phone's mic. He recalls, “My approach was: ‘I’m the smartest guy in the room. Kevin adopted that style, which came naturally to him and allowed him to rise rapidly on the career ladder. His colleagues were confident, employed a command-and-control style of leadership, and made their expectations clear. Navy, where he began his career, and then at General Electric and MCI-had exemplified certain core principles of leadership. Up until then, all Kevin’s key professional influences-in the U.S. In 1992 one of us (Kevin) joined Amgen, the world’s largest biotechnology company, as its president and chief operating officer. Becoming better listeners, in short, allows them to do their jobs better. When leaders listen in focused, attentive, and systematic ways, they can pick up on early signs of danger, head off potential crises, and recognize glimmers of opportunity. To break out of their information bubbles, leaders need to create better “listening ecosystems.” They must listen without distraction or judgment-purely for comprehension-and create systems and processes that elevate listening to a state of hypervigilance. Warning signals are tamped down, key facts are omitted, and data sets are given a positive spin. Senior leaders confront a paradox: They have access to more lines of communication than anybody else has, but the information they get is suspect and compromised. The authors conclude this piece by sharing advice-gleaned from interviews and personal experience-about how leaders can learn to listen better. ![]() This sort of sustained attention to listening allows leaders to pick up on early signs of both danger and opportunity-and that, in turn, allows them to do their jobs and serve their organizations better. All of it isolates leaders in a dangerous information bubble.īut they can escape that bubble, the authors argue, by working actively to create a more expansive “listening ecosystem.” They first have to learn how to listen actively themselves, without distraction or judgment, purely for comprehension then they have to create systems and processes all around them that elevate listening to a constant state of hypervigilance. Senior leaders, particularly CEOs, confront a central paradox in their work: They generally have access to more lines of communication than anybody else, but the information that flows to them is suspect and compromised. |
